Spraying Complete in Japanese Beetle Hot Zone

In an urgent effort to combat the invasive Japanese Beetle and safeguard the local environment and economy, the Board of County Commissioners approved a contract on April 25, 2023,  to treat Japanese Beetle grubs, and is pleased to announce that the spraying operations in the designated hot zone have been completed.

The Japanese Beetle, known for its ability to cause extensive damage to various crops and ornamental plants, poses a significant threat to the region. Its eradication is crucial to ensure the well-being of the agricultural sector.

Grub control treatments were applied across approximately 120 acres of irrigated turf (752 properties treated out of 826) within the hot zone area — 24 Road to Horizon Drive on the West and East sides and G and H Roads on the North and South.

Completing the spraying operations marks a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against the Japanese Beetle. Mesa County remains dedicated to collaborating with property owners, farmers, CSU Extension, the Colorado Agriculture Department, and local governments to manage this invasive species.
